Description
At the Writing Center of the University of Wuerzburg, we’re looking for a partner to set up a Virtual Exchange for students of all disciplinary backgrounds, who want to improve their writing skills, and even more importantly, who want to get in touch and collaborate with students from different geographical and/or cultural backgrounds. The main subject of this course would be academic writing with a focus on the individual writing projects the students are working on. At JMU level the Writing Center has successfully run so called “Writing Groups” in a face-to-face setting for the past couple of years and we’d now like to add a digitally enabled international/intercultural dimension to our approach. Our Writing Group (and in fact general) approach can be characterized as inclusive, learner-led, non-directive and dialogue-/collaboration-centered. Here, you’ll find more information about the Writing Center’s philosophy and offers: https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/en/schreibzentrum/offers/ In the context of “Academic Writing Beyond Borders” our goal is to support students in taking ownership of their writing process, reflect explicit/implicit disciplinary, cultural, or other standards or assumptions on academic writing that they may carry and engage in constructive discussions or feedback-processes on a peer-level. We’re looking for a partner with similar goals and across the disciplines. The students should have a writing project in English that they’re working on at the time of the virtual exchange. Our “physical” Writing Group projects are usually run over the course of 6 weeks and we’d also aim at this in the VE project. The VE could be run in the summer semester 2021 (between April and July), but optionally, we’d also be ready to start already from October 2020 onwards. Possible would be a writing group for students or for graduates planning their thesis.
