DescriptionFR3502: French for International Studies Dr. Adela Lechintan-Siefer French and Italian The Ohio State University Course offered in Spring semesters January-April Course description: Globalization, regionalism, diverse identities, and power relations are just a few concepts used to describe and understand the multilateral dynamics that have shaped the French-speaking world. Deepening your knowledge about this world and acquiring the cultural and linguistic skills needed to successfully navigate an international career path will be at the center of this course. By surveying themes such as the relations between French-speaking countries, international organizations, and current events in France and the Francophone regions, students in this course will gain cultural knowledge and develop intercultural competence and vocabulary skills that they can utilize in fields such as international studies, diplomacy, human rights, journalism, and other professional contexts. In this course, students will collaborate virtually with international peers on a team project that will focus on a current (social, cultural, political, environmental) issue in the world. Students will research, examine, and discuss cultural topics and will document and present their work by creating a web page, blog, or video. Virtual Exchange: 4-6 weeks between January and April Language: French Class size: 25-30 students Partner: Open to connect with courses in diverse disciplines and universities from French-speaking regions. Additional information and commentsAs an instructor, I have previous experience in leading groups of college-level students on study abroad trips to France. I am looking for a virtual exchange partner in a field such as (but not limited to) humanities, languages, social sciences, international relations, environmental studies, journalism, management, communications.
