University of Wuerzburg, Wuerzburg (2)
DescriptionIn the upcoming summer semester I'll be teaching a course for preservice teachers with various disciplinary backgrounds at the university of Wuerzburg. It will address the nexus between intercultural and media-education and the goal is to foster the preservice-teachers media-related as well as intercultural competences. The seminar will start in the middle of April and I'd like to introduce my students to Virtual Exchange from a participant perspective in May/June (the actual length of the VE is negotiable). I'd like my students to collaboratively develop VE-related concepts and facilitate their own online dialogue sequences or tasks (more info below). I'm primarily looking for a partner from the field of teacher or media literacy education, but I'm also open for suggestions. If you would like to discuss things further, please contact me: kristina.foerster@uni-wuerzburg.de

Additional information and commentsHere's a short description of my seminar to give you an idea. Please note that I don't plan to include Virtual Reality into the Virtual Exchange (it doesn't seem realistic, but if you happen to use Oculus Rift S in your teaching, adding the VR dimension would be awesome!) If you're interested, we could also consider using a desktop version of a social VR platforrm. Seminar Outline: Against the background of globalisation, the importance of intercultural and media-related competences of children and adolescents is equally emphasised in research and in national and international educational policy contexts. Teachers play a key role in these educational processes of their students. In this seminar we will focus on intercultural teaching and learning with digital media. On this basis, we will first develop a concept of culture that can also be used to capture processes within media cultures and digital communities. In an interplay between participant and pedagogical perspectives, you will learn about approaches such as Virtual Exchange (VE) and Online Facilitated Dialogue (OFD) and try out your own concepts. In ZOOM you will also interact with international partners. These course sequences take place in English in an appreciative atmosphere. Foreign language skills are not assessed, our focus is on the group process. At the end of the semester, you will also have the opportunity to apply your insights and concepts in an explorative way in Social-VR. IMPORTANT: For small group phases in virtual reality, participants will be provided with the necessary software and hardware (1x Oculus Rift S, 1x laptop). The instruction and collection of the devices will take place on site at the University of Würzburg. For the use of the Oculus Rift S, please also note the health and safety information (https://www.oculus.com/safety-center/rift-s/?locale=de_DE) as well as the data protection information of Oculus (https://www.oculus.com/legal/privacy-policy-for-oculus-account-users/).
