IVEC 2019 is the largest and most prominent event on virtual exchange, providing a forum for an audience of practitioners, professionals, and policy makers from institutions around the world interested in technology, international education, and new pedagogies.

Virtual exchange (also known as Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), Globally Networked Learning, or Telecollaboration) extends authentic opportunities for intercultural and transnational learning to students within the curriculum of college and university classrooms.  Through co-developed and co-taught modules, Virtual Exchange supports the development of 21st-century workforce skills and provides opportunities for applied learning experiences.

Hosted by the University of Washington Bothell and Tacoma campuses and supported by the State University of New York (SUNY) COIL Center, DePaul University, UNICollaboration, Drexel University, and East Carolina University, the International Virtual Exchange Conference is the premier event in this growing field. The hosts and supporting institutions each bring with them many years of experience developing, teaching, and researching Virtual Exchange.

We invite all professors, lecturers, and practitioners, instructional technologists and designers, IT professionals, international education and study abroad leaders, researchers, teaching and learning specialists, second language learning professionals, and anyone interested in intercultural innovation in higher education to attend IVEC 2019!

Bi-annual conferences

Every other year UNICollaboration organises an international conference for researchers, practitioners and policy makers about telecollaboration and virtual exchange as a cross-disciplinary activity. These conferences are  held in Europe in even years.  Previous conferences have been hosted by the University of León (2014), Trinity College Dublin (2016) and the Pedagogical University in Krakow, Poland (2018).

In order to create a stronger community for virtual exchange and increase interdisciplinarity, UNICollaboration and several US Universities who have held their own virtual exchange conferences (e.g. the SUNY COIL Conference in New York) have also come together to create the International Virtual Exchange Conference, or IVEC with the goal of holding a conference in odd years in the United States. The first IVEC will be hosted by the University of Washington on October 25-26, 2019. More information can be found at the IVEC website.
